My work evolved through drawing, painting and printmaking and now incorporates artist’s books, poetry, soundscape and small object sculptures. I like to devise projects the overarching nature of which allows me to be experimental and playful and have a number of conceptual strands which retain enough resonance to be tapped back into at later stages. I find ideas evolving through investigation of the environment in and around a site; recording natural patterns and narratives that reveal living processes. These energies and processes are often hidden or obscured but have an atmospheric and abstract quality of decay and change I find haunting.
At a selected site I look for small objects which have been forgotten or discarded; where time and weathering has altered the texture and where a kind of history is absorbed. I seek to highlight the narrative buried within these pieces through juxtaposing man made with organic forms and shifting their identities by placing them within a new framework.
